Before we go any further, there’s something important we should share. For now, our homestead is without its ducks and chickens. A bobcat found its way onto the property, and on 12/8/2025 we lost our final duck. It’s one of those realities of rural life that never gets easier, no matter how well you prepare.

Thankfully, a few tiny lives were spared—still tucked safely inside their eggs, warm in their incubators. Those little heartbeats give us hope. If all goes well, we expect to welcome a new generation of full-size chickens in about six months. As for ducks, we’ll wait until the predator situation is fully resolved before bringing any back home.

It’s a quiet pause in a chapter we love, but not the end of it.
